I saw this package of Samyang Kimchi Stew Ramyun peeking at me in the back of the shelf and I’m always up for a nice ramen. I love kimchi stew from the restaurant and wasn’t sure what Samyang was going to give me in a package that could compare to one of my favorites.
The package is fairly standard as far as Korean noodles go and the portion is standard as well. The package seemed to suggest that the ramen would be spicy and contain some of the ingredients that you might expect in a Korean stew.
I opened this bad boy up for some fine Korean Stew. The package contained the standard Korean ramen puck, one seasoning package and a package of dehydrated veggies and meaty stuff.
Ultimately this was a fine tasting bowl of ramen. I would gladly puchase and consumer this ramen again. It does fall a bit short of being a stew though. Sure, there is meat-like substance in it and there are a few veggies floating around which were good and a welcome ingredient. When I think kimchi stew I think of a base that is a bit thicker and perhaps a little spicier. If you ask me if this is kimchi stew you might notice a hesitation to say yes but if you want a good tasty bowl of ramen then I think Samyang has a good product here.
6 out of 10
Consistency – Thin for stew and medium for a soup
Spiciness – I think perhaps the people that are very intolerant to spicy food might notice a trace of spicy in here somewhere
Ingredients – Fake meat that resembled a slice of thin hot dog and dehydrated veggies (kimchi, garlic, mushrooms are some that I think I identified)
Noodles – The noodles were a little slippery, but in a good way
