When I saw Ottogi Spicy Rice Cake Tteokbokki Noodles it reminded me of the time I lived in Korea for a while and when I went back a couple years ago. The food I had while Iwas back was just like I remembered it from having lived there. I loved tteokbokki and have not had the best experiences finding it outside Korea, at least not good tteokbokki. So I was a little skeptical about this being very good. What a fantastic surprise to find I was wrong…..
The noodle puck was of a good size and typical for Korean ramen that comes in the bowl.
Two packages were inside and the tteokbokki actually looked very promising. The tteokbokki on closer inspection was the soft kind as opposed to the entirely dried out type. Nice size and easier to cook so the steeping time wouldn’t need to be so long.
The sauce was the other package that came with this ramen and was very very dark and smelled pretty spicy.
I love the bowls they are coming out with for dry noodles these days. They make ramen prep so easy.
Steeped the ramen and dumped in the dark sauce. I could smell the gochujang permeating the air while I was mixing it up. The tteokbokki turned out really good for an instant tteokbokki and the chewiness was perfect. The noodles turned out a little less chewy than I’d like for this ramen but still good. The sauce was pretty close to what I had on the street in specialty tteokbokki places in Korea. Spicy, strong gochujang flavor and sweet! Perfect. Thank you Ottogi for bring back good memories and making this so easy to get to. These are pretty spicy by the way. If you don’t like or can’t handle spicy then perhaps you should either not eat these or reduce the amount of sauce you put in.
