Ruski Beef Flavored Noodles are produced by Thai President Foods (Mama) in Thailand. Looking into their site it looks like that division primarily manufactures Halal food. I was interested as Mama is leading company in Thailand for noodles and Mama has become synonymous with noodles in Thailand. It’s similar to Hoover becoming synonymous for vacuum in the UK or Q-Tip being used interchangeably with cotton swab in the US.
The noodle brick is a small brick that is pretty common for Thai noodles and the brick itself is a bit darker which is also normal as noodles are often preseasoned.
This package came with an oil, chili powder and a packet of seasoning.
The oil looked pretty liquefied.
The chili powder looked very standard for Thai ramen.
The seasoning powder smelled pretty strongly of…..well flavor?
This is a wet noodle so I dumped everything together and waited the prescribed time. Once it was ready I took the first slurp and it had a very beefy flavor. OK, I know, it’s beef so of course but to be more specific the flavor tasted more natural. There was also a faint sourness in the background with a little sweetness. Neither of those were strong and neither were more distinguished than beef and chili. I added the entire packet of chili powder because I like spicy stuff but please add to your taste.
The oil seemed to emulsify better than many other noodles and there were few large oil droplets to be found. I always feel like this makes a better overall bowl of noodles as it seems to spread the oil more and I like it that way. Well played Ruski! One of the better Halal ramens I’ve had so far.
